The photograph of a piece of identification is often necessary. Several levels of verification are possible and some platforms remain more flexible than others.
The verification time can vary (very fast for Coinbase, reputedly long at Kraken).
The commercial volume makes it possible to appreciate the confidence and the success of a platform. The latter is significantly related to the number of crypto-currencies available for exchange. A high volume favors fair trade compared to the average price on all market places.

Coinbase offers a simple and ergonomic interface for all users who do not want to delve into the details of the workings of trading. Although the costs are higher than the competition, Coinbase is a platform perfectly suited for a first purchase. The Coinbase - Bittrex combo is perfectly adapted.

An alternative to Coinbase: go through the Kraken platform for less. However, the registration procedures on Kraken are longer and the interface is less intuitive than Coinbase.
Alternative to Bittrex: use Binance, a platform launched mid-2017 that allows cryptocurrency trading with very low fees. Binance also has the advantage of being stable and easy to use.

Kraken allows direct deposit of funds in euros by bank transfer on its platform. The main cryptocurrencies are available for exchange. The fees are relatively low.
NB: the verification of identity can be particularly long (several weeks).
Binance and Bittrex will allow access to other crypto-currencies not available on Kraken.
